How texting works
Gather only sends text messages to people who opted in themselves, or whom an organizer has confirmed they personally know and have permission to contact. Every message identifies Gather, and anyone can reply STOP to opt out at any time.
The three ways people opt in
Signing up for Gather includes an optional, unchecked box to receive texts about your gatherings and Gather updates. It states that message frequency varies, that message and data rates may apply, and that you can reply STOP to opt out — with a link to our Privacy Policy.

Anyone invited can add their own phone number and check an unchecked “Notify me” box to get updates about that specific gathering. The full disclosure appears right there: message frequency varies, message and data rates may apply, reply STOP to opt out, reply HELP for help, with links to our Privacy Policy and Terms.

If an organizer adds someone by phone number, Gather does not text that person until the organizer actively checks an unchecked box confirming they personally know the recipient and have permission to text them about the gathering. That confirmation is governed by our Organizer SMS Agreement, and the recipient can reply STOP at any time.
